Xuhui Aviation Club
Xuhui Aviation Club
Shanghai / China, 2011
Descrizione
A partially buried enclosure, the Xuhui Aviation club conceals its volume and camouflages its proximity to the helicopter landing site and adjacent main road. The accommodation is folded into the architecture and resolves itself in the landscape like shifting tectonic plates. The gaps between the plates provide access from the main entrance facing the road or from the river embankment to the screened and shaded lower courtyard. The courtyard enhances the quality of space and light; all views are tilted towards the courtyard exterior, the sky, the landscape and the river. The lower levels below the ground have been designed to be unobtrusive yet striking; flowing and fitting seamlessly with the principles of the client’s master plan to create varied public spaces with incidence, nodal points, surprise and event.
