Karsten Schmidt-Hoensdorf is the founder and creative mind behind Zurich architectural firm IDA14, founded in 1993. After studying history and politics in Toulouse and Munich, he turned to architecture and completed a degree in interior design.
Since the foundation of his architecture and design studio IDA14, Karsten and his team have worked on projects in all the classic areas of interior design, both in Switzerland and abroad, as well as on product design and development. They specialise in the fields of hospitality and corporate identity.
For several years, Karsten worked as consultant in the position of Director of Interior Design at Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, where he was in charge for international hotel development and renovations.
As a lecturer at the International Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (IHTTI) in Neuchâtel, Karsten shares his knowledge with prospective hoteliers on topics such as managing design development processes and design quality criteria.
With his extensive experience and interdisciplinary team, Karsten offers specialised services and advice in the fields of consulting for hospitality projects, architecture and interior design.
The work of architecture and design studio IDA14 is regularly covered in magazines, blogs and books. Karsten himself is also a journalist, and produces specialist articles for various media, including the Swiss hospitality magazine “Hotelier”.
